Plan Of Media In The Online Age Question...

In the last few years, what have been the most significant developments in how individuals use the internet?

Introduction:
- Internet in the past, internet was used for business reasons, for example sharing business ideas, emailing clients etc.
- Discuss how it has changed over the years, for example becoming more socialized and entertainment reasons.

Paragraph One:
- Google is the main website that has been set up over the past few years. It gives people endless opportunities and there is a huge variety of reasons to use Google. For example, business, socializing, shopping, directions, translations, booking tickets, and the list goes on.
- A worldwide search engine that is used on a daily basis, and when people say 'Google it' everyone knows what you mean.
- Google has developed over the last fews years, it's now google translate, google maps, g-mail etc, therefore there is no need for individuals to use another search engine.
- People have become lazy when it comes to research etc. Instead of going to the library and reading books, people will just google it.

Paragraph Two:
- Youtube is also a massive development.

Plan

Plan for example question to online age.
- What impact has the internet had on media production, distribution and exhibition?

Intro = Write briefly about the past and explain how the internet wasn't as easily accessible as it is now.

Contemporary = Present day information. Which media's we are using, TV and Film.

Media production definition, examples (snakes on a plane), theorists (Jeff Howe - crowd sourcing - people's opinions are taken into account AND Henry Jenkins - participatory culture we all produce media) and analysis (what this impacts on the audience etc.) on the impact to modern day life.

Media distribution definition, examples (misfits and little miss sunshine), theorists (globalisation definition- how it relates through distributing worldwide) and analysis (good and bad ways of how internet impacts these things. Good- advertising and more profit making it more popular and Bad- illegal downloads relating to exhibition) Furthermore..

Media exhibition definition, examples (films and tv programmes are available to download illegally spoiling the concept of the cinema and new films - vimeo spoils the profits that could be made because you watch for free however its convenient to viewers) theorists (Chris Anderson - long tail theory) Analysis (the impact the internet has on modern media)

Conclusion = Make a predication for the future impact of the internet on modern day. e.g. all Tv programmes and film will be made quicker and illegal downloads figures will be increased.

P3-72 Thriller Post Production Analysis

Analyse your post production choices in your thriller.
We created a soundtrack to tailor our Thriller. we did research on other thriller's soundtracks such as the exorcist and tried to make one similar to it. This effect meant that our video gave off a more overall creepy feeling and helped to build tension which allowed us to follow conventions.
We did a flashback to the killings and then ack to reality to seem like he was drreaming.

Post Production

Post production on our thriller - Fiona.
After filming our thriller, we ensured we had enough time to do all of our editing and sound work. Our editing wasn't too difficult as we used to small variety of locations including Eloise's house. All our footage went smoothly and the scenes all flowed in chronological order therefore the editing was simpler for us. The soundtracks were the hardest as we had to make sure the visuals fit the sound.
The main skill we used in post production was editing however we didn't include a large majority of transitions including fades. We also didn't use things like colour correctors or speed changes.
We analyzed our feedback given from our rough cut therefore we changed it to make it better from this information. This information made us change things like scene lengths and dialogue lengths.

Post production on our thriller - Briarly.
Our thriller included a variety of post production decisions such as editing, transitions, titles, etc.
These decisions had different impacts on our thriller. Editing our footage to pick out the best shots and framing of footage meant we could improve our video from our rough cut.

Post Production skills - How have they developed over time?

Group P1 - 04

Which post production decisions can you tell the group have made?
The group have only made a few post production decisions that are obvious to me as the viewer.
The frame rate is increased a number of times throughout their video this is a post production decision which involves using final cut. The second noticeable decision is the 'LA LA LA' that comes onto the screen in colourful writing. The last decision I noticed was the split screen shots and the jump cut shots at the end of the video.

What impacts do these have on the product?
All of these decisions have added to how interesting the video is. The variation from the norm makes it something you can actually watch the whole way through. The 'LA LA LA' effect matches visuals and lyrics which is proven by goodwin to attract the audience. The speeding up the rate of the video creates a comic feel to the video. The split screen effect make it interesting

Which post productions skills do the group still need to develop?
The group could have done the jump cut better, however this may be due to how they filmed it on the set and not how they edited it on final cut.

What do you think they have done more successfully then you did in your work?
This group has managed to create a more exciting video then ours however this may be due to the song they had to work with (it is more exciting and faster then ours)

Look at their ancillary tasks what should they add or improve?
Both the poster and dvd cover that the group did are packed full of info and both look very interesting and eye catching however they have missed out a price.

Thriller Post Production

The post Production decisions that we made were:
- Sound track
- Colour filter
- Transitions
- POV shot from rifle
- slow me/sped up footage
- titles/credits
- foley sound (gunshot, dubbing)

What impact did these have on the product?
The soundtrack made the video more mysterious
The colour filters added a sense of danger cause equals danger in film language
The cuts made the sequence more intense
The POV shot was used as an establishing shot of the target

P1-01 Analysis...

1) From watching the video, we can tell that the group made these post production decisions:
- split screen
- reverse effect
- colour corrector
- transitions/slide
- added text on to the screen
- fast forward effect
- had to plan an order and arrange the shots

2) The post production decisions that the group made definitely benefited the overall product. The effects they chose for instance the fast forwarded and the split screen sections suited the genre well and made the video exciting to watch. They had a positive impact on the product as they kept it interesting and appealed to the target audience.

3) A post production skill that we think the group need to develop is the use of colour corrector. In some parts of the video the colour worked really well however there were quite a few places where there were stripes across the screen that changed from colour to black and white. This was not obvious enough to be effective, it looked like there had been a problem with the editing rather than an intended effect.

4) We would say that this group are more skilled on final cut and are not afraid to use a variety of editing effects.  They used more transitions and split screens than we did which worked really well for the genre of the song.

5) After looking at the group's ancillary products we decided that the font on the digipak is not legible enough and the chosen font is not very professional looking. We think to improve the digipak they could make the text a colour that is less bright and a font that is more attractive. We liked their poster however the photograph is out of focus and to make it look more professional they could use a clearer photograph.

post production questions

Which post production decisions can you tell the group have made?
One decision was to use a clip of Saul watching time go by repeatedly, this is evident as a police car goes by 5 times in about 20 seconds of clip. A second decision is to use the fading affect of the woman fading away, this was done by over lapping two clips.

What impact do these have on the product?
Well my second point is visuals to lyrics, representing him losing his girl friend slowly over time. My first point was also visuals to lyrics as it represents that life is just drifting by so fast which links with the song.

Which post production skills do the group still need to develop?
I think that the group needs to develop their editing skills, the is not many special effects and it makes the video a bit boring.  They could also improve their lip syncing in places.

What do you think they have done more successfully than you did in your work?
I think they edited a large range of scenes together, there are a lot of jump cuts between different locations whereas our lip syncing scenes were only in a few locations. The camera movements and pivots are more stable than ours and so look more professional. They edited together a wider range of scenes than us so the video didn't become boring.

Look at the ancillary tasks, what should they add to improve?

For there final video they did not do any dvd covers or digipacks but we are going to look at the practice ones that they did. There poster is very colourful and i like the pictures that they have included, but they could have done better by saying the age and the fonts could be improved because the title doesnt stand out from the rest of it.

Post Production

 Analysing Group P105

1) Which Post Production decisions can you tell the group here made?
- Transitions (Split screens)
- Titles (touch me touching you)
- Slow motion
- Lyrics and Visuals

2) What impact did these have on the product?
Slow motion impacts the product by giving the feel that the music video is finishing. The lyrics and visuals makes it easier to foolow the video and makes the audience feel more interacted with the video. The transitions made the video flow and look more appealing. The titles made the video more vibrant and interesting to see.

3) Which post production skills do the group still need to develop?
We think the editing needs to be better. Tighter cuts in between shots as in some shots you can see the actors just before they start performing and it can be very disillusioning. We thought the titles they used worked well because it worked well with the genre, but the stylistic floruishes were limited and scattershot. To improve their video they could have made their footage more constant so it all  flowed through instead of cutting between shots and re filming in different areas.

4) What did you think they have done more successfully than you did in your work?
They had more of a variety of locations then us as they filmed in different areas of college and we only used 3 types of locations.

5) Look at their ancillary tasks. What should they add or improve?
To improve both their magazine advert and DVD cover they could have enlarged their images so it stands out more and attracts the audiences eyes. We thought both their products looked professional mainly because of the colours , they all worked well with each other and they had all the information but presented it in a simple manner.

moviemaker script

Our first major project was the children's film which was hard to be creative as we only had basic knowledge of the software on the computers and had to make sure the film suited a specific audience which meant we had certain guidelines. However we were allowed some creativity as we had the choice to film with the cameras or use I-Stop animation. The children's film allowed us to be creative because we created our own unique characters such as the criminal who was the main bad guy.We built up a profile of him to try and make him seem scary to young children. we created a completely new narrative which suited the genre and included the conventions of a children's film such as bright colours, lots of characters and a simple narrative to help appeal to the chosen audience. The use of I-Stop enabled us to make our own costumes and didn't have restrictions to locations or storyline. One way it was hard to be creative was the fact that it was just an opening to a children's film so it was very condensed and our couldn't fit in all our initial ideas.

The thriller was our next project and we were given the camera's and were allowed our own choice of thriller. We used our improved skills to develop our thriller by using new camera shots, effects and sounds to show off our new skills to make the audience more interested in what is going on and to impress them and we had more freedom with the genre than children's film as we could pick from sub-genres like psychological thrillers or actions thrillers. We could not be as creative as we would have liked to, as we were new with the cameras for example, in our thriller we tried to do an establishing shot but we were not stable enough with the camera so it looked poor but we had still improved from our children's film and were able to be more creative. We were able to use our extended knowledge of mise-en-scene to create better costumes and lighting, like using lights to draw attention to what is happening and using dark areas to build tension. I still think  that we couldn't unleash our full creativity because as with the children's film we had to match conventions like how we had to use a lot of dark colours and low lighting. We were restricted to props and costumes because we were doing a live action film rather than animation, this meant that we could only use the props that we could get our hands on.

Our final task for the 1st year was a lip synching task which we had to do to prepare for the music video task. Again the creativity was restricted because of the time we had to film this task as it was only a short clip of the chosen song. We still managed to be creative because we were able to pick costumes to fit the genre of the song and to help the audience recognise the artists. We used our developed skills to edit and create a short music video for the task using Final Cut which allowed us to mess around with effects and prepare for the music video task. This task was specifically to practice lip syncing and to match up timings of voice and camera shots which meant we had stick to certain tasks so couldn't be as creative but we didn't need to be because the audience was our friends and classmates.

The Music video was done in the 2nd year and was our final task so we had all the software and the cameras at our disposal. We had full use of Final Cut which allowed us to add transitions and different effects into our music video to show off our advanced skills and create a final piece of coursework. We were more creative because of camera angles and shots for example the low angle shot used in our video to make Joe seem larger and more of a threat. In this task we were also allowed to film at any location which meant we could pick a location which suited the song and we weren't made to stay in the college. We had a small choice of songs to pick from which meant we couldn't be fully creative until we had been allocated the song. Once we had our song we could be as creative as we wanted because we could put all our ideas together. In the music video we had a choice to include a narrative and characters because we were filming the whole music video which meant we had more time and didn't have to stick to a guideline. The music video tested all our skills because we had to use Final Cut and Photoshop to create a digipak and link the products together.  Overall we feel our creativity has developed due to the fact that we are aware of what needs to be included in our products and that we have a broader range of skills.

Creativity

How has your creativity developed over time?

How has your creativity developed in your children's film?

In our childrens film we were fairly new to the software and the cameras therefore we were unsure on which ideas will look best for our opening sequence of our film.  We did not have many skills on how to use garageband, final cut and photoshop and it was all basic. We were showed certain films were we had to take our inspirations from so we were not given much freedom to choose our own inspirations. However the childrens film was from our own ideas and was unique for us. We followed the conventions of a typical childrens film by having  a moral to the story , having binary opposites of our characters, we had two heroes and our villain, and introducing the characters at the begining therefore the narrative was not creative as our childrens film was typical. However we tried to make our opening creative by creating and making our own constumes and masks. We were restricted with our location as we had to be in the college, this was not creative as we couldnt choose different locations. For our editing on Final cut we used basic fades as we were not confident on how to use the software, but as this was our first year we thought we were being creative at that point.

How has your creativity developed in your Thriller film?

In our Thriller we were more confident on how to use the different softwares and we had more time to plan and research our ideas this enabled us to be more creative. We chose specific thriller films that had the same genre as us which was Crime Thriller, we looked at several different films on youtube and was inspired from this. This helped our film to be creative as we looked at successfull thriller films and developed on their ideas but also created some more ideas which made it creative. Whilst filming we were given more freedom and were allowed to leave the college to film , however we chose to stay in college and spent a lot of time looking for a convinient location, we found the basement of the college and thought our location was creative as no students have been their to film before. In final cut we used more transitions and effects we thought this would make our film unique and help engage our audiences more. We were more confident on how to use Garage band as our skills had developed , we were given the freedo to create our soundtrack how ever we wanted and we thought this enabled our opening to be creative . However after watching other thrillers we felt that most of them had the same sort of sound track, this did not make our thriller unique and was similar to all others. To make our thriller creative we created a production logo, we used Photoshop to do this , this helped our skills to develop and our thriller looked more individual.

How has your creativity developed in your Lip Sync Task?
For our lip sync task, we had to make a short film for a very well known song to ease us into the idea of a music video. Aside from the song, we had no further instructions so we were able to look at and develop ideas we may use later on. The lip sync was also useful as it gave us confidense in the concept of lip syncing so when we did the music video, we could focus on ideas instead of if the lip sync was right.

How has your creativity developed in your music video?
For our music video, we learned to be more responsive to the music, in terms of cuts, visuals and style. Looking at several music videos on youtube inspired us to do many different things, we felt more confident that we could achieve these ideas because many ideas had already been tested in the lip sync task. We also had more time to explore and experiment with the image in terms of colour schemes and shot types. As each choice of song was different, the range of music videos was vast and diverse. To make the music video creative we reached the limits of how far we could plan, shoot and edit our videos, and while the work was ardious, the final product pays off. The almost total lack of instructions for the music video enabled us to be so creative in the music video and with the advertisement later on. Our editing had developed a lot in this video we were more confident on Final cut as we used several jump cuts, wipes, coloured filters, reverse footage all of this made our video more creative as these were our own ideas. We followed all of the Goodwins points which were, Voyeurism, Intertexuality, matching visuals and lyrics, matching music and visuals, selling the artist and genre characteristics. We used all of this and this helped our creativity as we found unique ways of reaching these points for example for our music and visuals, for the line 'get a table sitting side by side' we inserted an image of the table the two protagonists would be sitting at the very end of the music video. We were given more time to research and plan in this project this helped us with our creativity because it enabled us to explore more , find suitable locations, try out different ideas and see which one looks well.

Which one of your projects is the most creative and why?

We think that our music video is the most creative because we were more comfortable wth the different softwares, Final cut, Garage band and photoshop. We were given more time to plan and research , this helped us to find the best ideas.  Our skills had developed a lot from our first task  and we were given more freedom to choose our own ideas. We found the music video more interesting to create and more relatable to us, therefore our creativity developed to enable us to produce an advanced professional work.

Creativity...

1) How Have You Been Creative In Your Children's Film?
Our overall storyline for our children's film was good as it consisted of all key features of films that children enjoy, for example A Hero which was Bean and Bell and A Villain which was Dr.Skull. The way we made the storyline creative was through the costumes and editting. Our costumes were different in the way that they were tailored to look like typical hero's with a twist. As we created our children's films in our first year at AS we weren't as skilled with using Final Cut and Garageband as we have excelled to be now. However, we were creative with our editing as we we're able to rewind scenes and apply slow motion. The imagery we used was good enough to attract a young audience however it was still reasonably basic, even though we added different shots. As we have progressed, we have been able to experiment more with camera angles and shots rather than sticking to the typical long shots and close ups. The sound in our chidlren's film was creative because it was made by our group and varied between action, fast pace music and sad, slow pace music depending on the characters on screen. A limitation we found using garageband was that the soundtrack didn't flow very well however we have had the time to improve this when creating our thrillers and music videos.

2) How Have You Been Creative In Your Thriller?
The storyline we agreed on with our thriller was very creative in the way it used metaphors to explain certan features and answers in each scene. We conduced research prior to our filming to ensure we gathered the right information on the main aspect of our thriller which was the sphinx. The information we collected was evidence that the sphinx is a mysterious character therefore we used riddles to explain this behaviour. This helped with our creativity as it allowed us to be more confident in what we put across to the audience. Another thing that improved our confidence is how we made our thriller after our childrens film therefore we were more skilled with using final cut and garageband. Just with our opening we found that the imagery was creative because of, in particularly, the credits. These were different because they were editted to express the feel of the overall thriller. This was also done with the soundtrack following it. We used a lot of city noises and sounds to add effect and emotion.

3)How Have You Been Creative In Your Lip Syncing Task?
Our chosen soundtrack for our lip syncing task was Salt 'N' Pepa - Push It. We found this project a time to be most creative as it was a task where we chose the song, costume and imagery. We got a choice of songs and we chose this one in particular because we both knew the lyrics and enjoyed listening to it. We also thought we could come up with some new ideas on how to portray this genre of music. Our costumes were basic however we were creative in the way we added the hats. This showed how we thought about how to match the on screen footage with the genre of the music, which was hip-hop. We only had one lesson to complete this task therefore we found it difficult to film it to the best of our ability however we felt our over all outcome was pretty good.

4)How Have You Been Creative In Your Music Video?
Our genre for our music video was indie/rock this meant that our visuals on screen needed to be linked with this therefore our story-line, visuals and edits were achieving this. As our soundtrack was a male artist we ensured that the main focus was male. The music video project was the task given to us at A2 level and the task given to us with the longest time. We were able to go out of college to film giving us a variety of locations and costumes (as it was filmed on different days).
Being able to place ourselves in different groups we met different people allowing us to share ideas and contribute each of our skills together. These skills have been explored in previous years and tasks making us more experienced with using final cut and garageband.

exam questions

To what extent have digital technologies helped develop your research and planning skills during your Media 'A' Level?

digital technologies
.  three products - childrens film, thriller and music video.
- the digitial technologie we used are - blogger, youtube, final cut, garage band, photoshop, cameras, google, safari, IMDB, apple mac.
They developed over the 3 products as our confidence in using the technology grew. We wanted to explore more and found it easier.
For each product we used more digital technologies and our knowledge and use of them advanced greatly
research and planning
.  For the research of our first product we only used google and the basic softwares. For our thriller we experimented more and researched other films on IMDB and looked at past students work, For our music video we took a lot of time in researching other music videos of the same genre on Youtube, we looked at Butch Walker's facebook fan page and his other videos. We looked at past students work and several Alternative Rock music videos.

Planning-
- For our childrens film we planned a limited schedule and improvised most of it,
For our thriller our planning developed and we used story boards and timne lines to make our video more continuous. And for our music video we used a shot list, storyboards, timelines and planning sheets. We were also more articulate in planning each shot with a keen attention to detail.

To what extent have digital technologies helped develop your research and planning skills during your Media 'A' Level?

  • Youtube - easy to find info and post clips
  • Blogger - easy to share info

Goodwin's points

1) Voyeurism of a mans body when Adam gets his small weasley body out. Annabelle has voyeurism thrust upon her when Adam sees her as a sex symbol and goes to hump her like he tries to do in real life because he loves her. When the boys go to talk to Annabelle it shows that they are trying to win her, it shows that she is portrayed as a prize to be won. We have learned over the two years that it can make a successful music video as girls are half naked which attracts men to watch the video over and over again.

2) Selling the artist - Focuses very  much on Adam and his friends. They are seen to be happy and joking about. Adam is half dressed at the beginning which is appealing to girls. In past years we would have tryed to get everyone equal screentime, but this time round we focused on Adam which helped show he is the main character in this video.

3) Lyrics/Visuals - When Adam sings "touch me touching you" it is illuminated onto the screen. In the past we would not have done this as we would not have known how to. When we all say "touch me touching you" near the pond, we sing the song as well as point to ourselves and the camera.

Music/visuals - The music is fast paced and we matched the video to suit this by using lots of jump cuts. We also used transitions which kept the pace of the scene fast.
How has your use of digital technology developed over the 2 years and affected the outcome of your product?

During the last two years, as individuals, our knowledge and skills with digital technology has developed a great amount. We were already familiar with software we used, such as, Photoshop, Garageband and Final Cut, but our increased use of the programs familiarized us with them even more, and made us more advanced with them.

We used Youtube to find appropriate film clips to post onto Blogger, where we post our thoughts and findings. This helped us plan out our practical work.

Before we started our music video, we used Twitter to contact Kanye West

Script- P1-04

How has your use of digital technology developed over two years and affected the outcome of your two products?
(Morgan Freeman/Barry White accent)
Hello there, the love affair with digital technology started in September 2009 when we started our Long Road journey.  It started with the introduction to the Mac computers and the software available on them.  We found out that there were programs such as Photoshop, iStop Motion, GarageBand and Final Cut Express.  We later found out that we were to use and take advantage of all these programs in our media projects throughout our two years at Long Road.

Firstly we were given the task of making the opening scene to a children's film.   This was our first chance to get the cameras rolling, so the excitement levels were soaring. We started off by using the blogs and websites such as Youtube and Google to plan our openings. We then started to use the video cameras to film our footage, before editing this into our premiere project. To edit this we used Finalcut and garageband to create a soundtrack to go with it. this resulted in a very amateur piece of work that we would look for a chance to improve on in our thriller.

Michael Jackson's thriller was one of the greatest music videos ever, it also had the largest budget for a music video at the time, however this has nothing to do with our presentation. Our thriller projects was the second product we created in the AS year of media. The criteria was similiar to that of the childrens project but to relate it to the thriller genre, whether it be political, action, psychological or a crime.  Our final products came out great in the end with our use of our intense editing skills.

In our A2 project we had the task of making a music video. We looked at other inspirational videos from big name stars, and example of this was Geri Haliwell "Raining Men". We used itunes to assign a music track to each group, we decided to use butch Walker - Too Famous to get fully dressed. We then researched music videos that are part of the same genre and looked for common conventions. We then took these into consideration when we filmed our music video featuring Dom Robinson (or his preferred name Robertson). We then edited this using the same programs but we now knew how to use these to there full potential. we used Motion keys and special transitions to make our video more effective. This also lead to it being a much better video than Rebecca Blacks video for Friday.

Post-it note presentation

1.Title on the 1st note

post it note saying year 1 at the bottom then branched off other little post it notes which different software and technology.

HJ : Hello there classmates Welcome to our awesome presentation your gonna love it!
Last year we used many a software such as

Year1:
Final Cut- snappy thing
Garageband-picture of a guitar
Blogger- B
IStop- Stop sign
Youtube-
Google-

JJJ: we used cameras to film our thriller video and only used basic shots and then edited it using final cut and garageband. we used the internet and websites like google and youtube to publish our film and research existing ones

We used i stop to create the childrens film which we found very easy to use.

Digital technology

how has your use of digital technology developed over the last two year and affected the outcome of your products?

we used a variety of digital technologies in our 3 products on apple computers
childrens film
thriller
and music video

in our childrens film
we researched our ideas using safari on google
we filmed our product with HD cameras
edited on final cut using basic editing skills, eg fades
added music and non diegetic sounds on garage band
and uploaded the results on blogger
we did all this on a very basic level as we were unfamiliar with the softwares.

when we filmed our thriller we were more open to experimentation
we researched more thoroughly on sites other than wikipedia such as Imdb
we used the Hd camera to capture the footage but also used a camera to take stills
we learnt to take screen grabs
in final cut we learnt to modify the speed in the film and add transitions
in garage band we learnt to synch up sounds with imagery
we explored on photoshop and added out title cards and filters
we added all this onto blogger with more detailed accounts

our final product was a music video
we captured the footage on HD video camera and took stills using the camera
we researched a lot of artist of the same genre from youtube
we got in contact with artist on facebook telling him about our ideas
we were more confident to explore the possibilities of final cut, examples being selecting key colours to remain in a black and white picture, using reverse footage, stylish transitions ,multiple screens and to edit our commentary
we didnt use garage band at all as we had the song from before
we used photoshop to create our magazine advert and the interior and exterior of the DVD cover
we uploaded all this information along with videos, pictures links onto blogger.

Overall our music video was the most successful product as we were more confident with how to use the different digital technologies.

Digital Technology.

How has your use of Digital technology developed over the two years, and effected the outcome of your products?

- We have advanced over the two years from our children's film to our thriller as we got the hang of Final cut and got used to what tools did what and how they can be used.

 - Our children films was our first time with Final cut therefore our work was quite basic and simple with just techniques such as fades and long transitions

 - Photoshop was always one of the hardest technologies to use as we were all beginners and wasn't straight forward but over the two years we improved as we experimented with our photos and advertisements compared to when we used it in our thriller for the fonts.

- The Internet was a very common technology we used to research our ideas. Over the 2 years we progressed with using it as we used many sites to gather research from such as youtube and google which helped with our outcome of our video.

 - Another thing we used the internet for was social networking sites to contact the soundtrack's official artist. Doing this improved our music video from our first video as we got actual information from the artist which showed we used put extra effort into our research.

 - We used blogger to record our research and planning. This developed our work as our music video compared to our children's film we  used the website to gather information such as pictures to explain what we where trying to say and uploaded videos for inspiration. By the end of the two years we were able to use Blogger for it's full use.

- We used garage band in our children's film and thriller but we found garage band more of a challenge the second time as it was hard to get the music to fit with the genre but having used it before for our children's film it helped make it easier.

1) Voyeurism - Voyeurism of a mans body when Adam gets his small weasley body out. Annabelle has voyeurism thrust upon her when Adam sees her as a sex symbol and goes to hump her. When the boys go to talk to Annabelle it shows that they are trying to win her, it shows that she is portrayed as a prize to be won. We have learned over the two years that it can make a successful music video as if people wear revealing clothes it can attract men/women to watch the video over and over again.

4) Music/visuals - The music is fast paced and we matched the video to suit this by using lots of jump cuts. We also used transitions which kept the pace of the scene fast. When Adam is singing in his bedroom he taps his comb to the beat of the music to keep the rhythm. There are a few scenes where we are dancing and this also fits in with the style of music.

5) Genre - The genre of the music video was pop and we feel this has been achieved in several ways. We are all happy and joking around which suits the genre as obviously if we were all serious then it would not fit. The fast pace of the video indicates it is pop as

You Are The Moon Analysis...

Voyeurism:
When filming, we used close ups of Heidi's face, hands, feet etc to use voyeuristic objectification which is typical of music videos with females in. This differs from when we created our thrillers because we weren't thinking about making the person in front of the camera look attractive because of the genre. Also in our music video, Heidi is the centre of attention and is in every shot, whereas in our thrillers and children's film, their are plenty of characters and more than one to look at.

Selling The Artist:
Our artist is given a lot of screen time in the music video, to make the audience familiar with her face so they can remember her and she becomes easy to recognize when making another video. She is being portrayed as a pure and innocent character in the video which makes her easily likable. Also the artist is showing more than one skill by playing the piano while singing. This shows that she is multi-talented and the audience might be more interested in her as she portrayed as a real musician.

Lyrics/Visuals:
As the song is based on nature, we used settings where the artist was surrounded by nature so that when she referred to water in the lyrics she was then by a river so it all made sense. Also, in the lyrics she mentions being all alone so the visual at that point is the artist all alone, with big buildings towering over her making her look small and vulnerable. In another section, the lyrics say 'the heavy weight of stone' and as the artist sang this, she slowly dropped her head to make it look heavy.

Music/Visuals:
The mood of the song is serious and expressive therefore the artist showed this in her facial expressions.

Goodwin Points for our Music video

Our Music Video contains and matches all of Goodwins Points.

Selling the Artist

Throughout the video we sold the artist by giving him the most screen time. Also, we used many close ups.

Visual/Lyrics

Also, we used another of Goodwins Points. This was visual/lyrics. This is how what you see at the time matches what is being said on the audio. An example of one is when the lyric 'She had a lil weed and we get a lil high' is being said, our video changes to a shot of Clara smoking a fake spliff. We thought this would be effective and emphasize the drug reference. Also, when you hear the lyric 'Now shes on the internet looking for classes', you literally see this taking place.

Visual/Music

We used this in our video by changing the camera shot to the beat of the song. We also thought this was effective because in this particular section, the beat is very noticeable and our editing goes very well with it.

Todorov said about narrative structure, beginning middle and end with all loose ends tied up, which is true in the case of our music video as at the end the main character meets up with the lead singer tying the loose end of why the man got out of bed and went into town.

Robert Stam said that genres could be defined through the performer and through viewing the artist the audience know what to expect. This works with our music video as Max (main artist) meets all the conventions of an Alternative Rock genre therefore by viewing his performance the audience knows what to expect.

Throughout the two years our skills have developed a lot. From our children's film to thriller and the music video, especially our editing skills. We have learnt how to match the visuals with music as in the children's film, all the footage was shot and then we just added whatever music we could find and hoped it would work. However when creating our music video we planned exactly what would work well and experimented different ways to see what worked the best.
Also our planning has improved from our children's film as we weren't well prepared therefore the film wasn't continuous and looked less professional as our music video, which went exactly how we planned it to be.
For our intertextuality our skills have developed as in our children's film we did not research as much as our music video.

Music Video - Goodwin's Points

Voyeurism - the pleasure of looking at the band members.  Fans of Butch Walkers music will like the style and way that we dressed for the music video so this will be voyeurism for Butch Walker fans.

Selling the artist - the main singer had more screen time than the other two singers in the video so this sells the band with Ciro acting as the frontman.  Again the way that we dressed also sold us as artists as fans of tis type of music of the indie/rock genre will also be into a similar style.

Lyrics/visuals - some of the lyrics matched visuals as when Ciro sang 'la la la' the words came up on screen.  Also we matched visuals to the lyrics for example when we were sitting outside a coffee shop to the lyrics "go to the coffee shop dressed as we are."  We also showed Dom's hair as "a f***ing mess" when  the lyrics came up.

Music/visuals - the cuts matched the beat which matches the indie genre as most music videos of an indie go to a beat such as the Kaiser Cheifs, "Never Miss A Beat".

Intertextuality - an advert for the awe inspiring Peugeot 206 - integrated technology.
                         - Aunties Tea Shop in Cambridge
                         - Clothing makes - A&F, Fenchurch, Henleys

Genre - the genre is indie/rock.  As mentioned above the beat of the music and the matching visuals help to implement this genre along with the type of clothing being worn by the artists.

Goodwins points in relation to our music video.

Goodwins Points:

  • Voyerism = The visual enjoyment
  • Selling the artist = the way the artist is seen, e.g Designers, personality etc.
  • Lyrics/Visuals = Lyrics that are seen in the visuals. Relating the lyrics in the song to the visuals.
  • Music/Visuals = When the beat matches the visuals e.g. when the scene changes at the chorus.
  • Intertextuality = How the music video copies other ones, e.g. We copied the visual chorus cards from Bob Bylan.
  • Genre = How the genre is shown through the music video.

1. Voyeurism - Always a male artist singing the song. Band shown as well (voyeurism to those interested in music and instruments)

2. Selling the artist - Close ups, Always the one on screen (when with the band, main artist wears a different colour) Quirky character.

3. Lyrics/Visuals - Ski cap and Vest, "Came off my shoe", Table at a coffee shop, LA LA LA cards, Lyrics on screen,

4. Music/Visuals - End of song the visuals switch scene with the beat. "Do, do, do" briarly, scene changes when its the chorus and bridge.

5. Intertextuality - Red hot chilli peppers, Bob Dylan.

6. Genre - Indie/rock therefore main artists personality fits with this genre. His overall image helps portray the genre.

In comparison to other theorists, such as Robert Stam, states how our music video can meet certain conventions. He says that the genre can be defined through the performer. As the main artist in our video is quirky and dressed to fit the genre of indie/rock we believe we meet his conventions of this. This theory allowed us to become more advanced in relation to portraying the artist through the genre of indie rock as it made us think we needed to show the audience directly what our character is like.
