post production questions

Which post production decisions can you tell the group have made?
One decision was to use a clip of Saul watching time go by repeatedly, this is evident as a police car goes by 5 times in about 20 seconds of clip. A second decision is to use the fading affect of the woman fading away, this was done by over lapping two clips.

What impact do these have on the product?
Well my second point is visuals to lyrics, representing him losing his girl friend slowly over time. My first point was also visuals to lyrics as it represents that life is just drifting by so fast which links with the song.

Which post production skills do the group still need to develop?
I think that the group needs to develop their editing skills, the is not many special effects and it makes the video a bit boring.  They could also improve their lip syncing in places.

What do you think they have done more successfully than you did in your work?
I think they edited a large range of scenes together, there are a lot of jump cuts between different locations whereas our lip syncing scenes were only in a few locations. The camera movements and pivots are more stable than ours and so look more professional. They edited together a wider range of scenes than us so the video didn't become boring.

Look at the ancillary tasks, what should they add to improve?

For there final video they did not do any dvd covers or digipacks but we are going to look at the practice ones that they did. There poster is very colourful and i like the pictures that they have included, but they could have done better by saying the age and the fonts could be improved because the title doesnt stand out from the rest of it.

Post Production

 Analysing Group P105

1) Which Post Production decisions can you tell the group here made?
- Transitions (Split screens)
- Titles (touch me touching you)
- Slow motion
- Lyrics and Visuals

2) What impact did these have on the product?
Slow motion impacts the product by giving the feel that the music video is finishing. The lyrics and visuals makes it easier to foolow the video and makes the audience feel more interacted with the video. The transitions made the video flow and look more appealing. The titles made the video more vibrant and interesting to see.

3) Which post production skills do the group still need to develop?
We think the editing needs to be better. Tighter cuts in between shots as in some shots you can see the actors just before they start performing and it can be very disillusioning. We thought the titles they used worked well because it worked well with the genre, but the stylistic floruishes were limited and scattershot. To improve their video they could have made their footage more constant so it all  flowed through instead of cutting between shots and re filming in different areas.

4) What did you think they have done more successfully than you did in your work?
They had more of a variety of locations then us as they filmed in different areas of college and we only used 3 types of locations.

5) Look at their ancillary tasks. What should they add or improve?
To improve both their magazine advert and DVD cover they could have enlarged their images so it stands out more and attracts the audiences eyes. We thought both their products looked professional mainly because of the colours , they all worked well with each other and they had all the information but presented it in a simple manner.
